A word to Linux and Playstation

POST DRAFTED FEB 24, 2008

Hello to all that read this. i am a technology enthusiast with a background in Microsoft technologies, networking implementations, Linux communities and more. Pretty much I am every tech guy that has a pure interest in computers which surpass the basic need to find a job. I really like technology. In saying this I believe that whether I work for a multi-million dollar company which I have technically done or work at a retail store like Best Buy, my point is a valid one and if it is overlooked then it is at fault of Sony and the core linux distribution developers so on with another rant from another techy.

Another Geeky peice of Software
Mar 2, 2008 Software
VMWare. What is VMWare you ask. It’s the juice inside the apple. Its the water from the melon. The fluids extracted through stimulation of clitori. It’s a function within a function.
VMWare allows you to run a OS inside a OS. What is a OS. Windows is a OS a Operating System. With VMWare you can run Windows inside of Windows. Linux inside of Windows. And Hopefully one day MAC OSX inside of Windows or Vice Versa beside the use of Boot camp or Parallels which is another VM software.
VM means virtual machine. Which means you can make your computer act like another computer without changing much.
Its click as hell so if you are into it. Check www.VMware.com
Administrative Tools
Jul 16, 2007 Software
When I was into learning the ins and outs of windows my favorite sections of the OS became the Administrative Tools portion of the Control Panel. At least the Management Console. I was missing alot of that in Ubuntu, but I can now get alot of that back with GADMINtools. I have set up simple apache and ftp servers on here before but I was using the command line for most of it and could barely get any of it to work all the time. With these frontends I am under less stress to manage my machine. I dont use Apache anymore because of another web hosting solution i found but I still need my FTP SAMBA options.
Now Im not saying that the GUI frontend is better than the command line becasue its not. If you need to tweak and config then back to command line you go, but these Admin Tools give you enough to start up and customize a couple of options for the service you are running.
GADMINTOOLS is good for those who run APACHE, Proftp, SAMBA, BIND servers, Proxy Servers, DHCP Servers.
The 3D Desktop
Jun 16, 2007 Software
I have been into the concept of 3d desktop interfaces for a long time since the days of Lawnmower Man. We still have a ways to go with Hardware because for a system to properly function as a Virtual 3d environment the hardware has to be able to do alot of data crunching both for the CPU and GPU and memory has to be abundant and fast. Software wise we are not completely there but there is definite progress being made in that department.
Currently I have the Ubuntu Linux Operating System running the Beryl window manager which is a sub directory of Compiz. Dont know what I talk about, do a Wikipedia Search. Its not the Minority Report but it definitely is an upgrade in comparison to
the Apple and Windows UI that has been the same for roughly 12 years. The Basic concept of using a mouse has been around for about 20 years but we are making changes toward that department as well with the release of Multi touch tech, but i digress.
Alot of the features in Compiz have been implemented in Apple’s OSX already but now someone has created the same 3d Cube desktop feature for Windows based PCs. The software is called Yod’m 3D which stands for (Yet anOther Desktop Manager 3D). Yes it is Yet another Desktop manager because they have had many to be released. Many of the older ones have turns your Desktop into a 3D First Person Shooter style interface where if you want to do office work like typing in Microsoft Word, you would actually walk over to the desk and click the paper to start writing or walk to the televsion to start watching tv. It’s a nice idea but its not integrated well with the platform you are using it on plus it gets tedious to walk somewhere virtually to do something. I mean thats why we created the Operating Systems, so the tools we need would come to us, not so we can goto the tools needed. Anyways if you want to try it out then click the link. It’s free and just slick to show your friends, you know Eye Candy. It’s not as diverse as Beryl or even Compiz but its cool.
